Worship Mission Looking for a meaningful way to become more involved in worship at PHPC? There is an opportunity for you! Worship Mission is responsible for the "behind the scenes" activities that help make our worship services special. No matter how much or how little time you have, Worship Mission has opportunities for you to serve. Our Purpose
To provide varied opportunities for corporate worship, which effectively engage members and visitors alike, from the youngest to the oldest, in the experience of Reformed worship, giving strong emphasis to the preaching of the Word, celebration of the Sacraments, corporate prayer, and the offering of praise to God in music and all the Arts. Mission Responsibilities
Membership
The Worship Mission is composed of the Senior Pastor, the Director of Music, Associate Directors of Music, and committees whose members work with the pastors and professional staff to coordinate and oversee the many facets of congregational worship. Worship in the Reformed Tradition
As Presbyterians, we are part of what is called "The Reformed Tradition," whose roots go back to the early days of the Protestant Reformation. Guided particularly by the writings of John Calvin, we emphasize God’s sovereignty over all things in the church and in the world. This means that, in our worship, we seek to call attention to God in everything we do. We are saved by grace in Jesus Christ, and this gift of salvation is God’s doing, not ours. Therefore, since faith is a gift, everything we do is an expression of gratitude to our gracious God. Presbyterian worship is orderly but personal. It should always challenge both the mind and the heart, with a balance between "order and ardor." In our praying, our preaching, and our singing, the object of all worship is to praise God in Jesus Christ. --Dr. Blair R. Monie, Pastor Lay Worship
Lay Worship provides liturgists for worship services. These individuals assist the pastors in leading worship, generally through the reading of scripture, calls to confession, guiding the communal confession, and prayer. Lay liturgists serve during the 8:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. services. Training is available for those who feel called to this important ministry. Special Worship
Have you ever wondered how to get involved with the orchestration of the many different kinds of Worship Services throughout the year? The Special Worship Committee of the Worship Mission needs coordinators to help in planning the following Special Services: Advent and Christmas Eve Services, Service for Wholeness, All Saints Service, Baptism of the Lord Sunday, Epiphany and others. This committee also assists with special needs for services, such as Acolytes and parament changes. Worship Education
This committee works to educate the congregation in the historical, theological, and liturgical dimensions of worship. They prepare the worship aids for the congregation for use during Advent and Lent as well as daily lectionary (Scripture) readings. Ushers Guild
The ushers are the extended hand and welcoming voice of our church. Ushers are organized into four groups, and each group is divided into teams of ushers for the 8:15, 9:30 and 11:00 services. Through the Ushers' Guild, you will have the opportunity to share in training, fellowship and spiritual growth, and to experience what Senior Pastor Blair Monie calls the "ministry of hospitality." Music
This committee oversees all musical programs and events of the church, as well as special events such as Creative Arts Workshop, CarolFest and Masterworks. The Music Committee, working with the pastors, shapes the policy regarding music in worship and in other aspects of church life. Table Guild
Be a part of a team who prepares the Communion elements for all services of worship at which the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is celebrated and also for Outreach Communion. Sacraments: Baptism and Communion
The Sacraments committee serves Communion, assists in baptisms and helps organize the volunteers for these services. Outreach Communion, which is served four times a year to those who cannot attend worship, is a wonderful opportunity for you to assist the homebound members of the church. Flowers
Do you love being creative with flowers? This is a good way for someone with a small amount of time in their schedule to contribute to the beauty of our church and church activities. Members provide the flowers and the committee arranges them for worship services. Flowers are also distributed to baptism families and home-bound members after the service. Worship Support
Worship Support handles weekly Chapel/Sanctuary refurbishment and prepares the mailing of bulletins and seasonal educational materials to homebound church members. Congregational Communication
Developing and facilitating lines of communication within the congregation is the aim of this group. This is done through the worship bulletin, church newsletter, church website, and other periodic publicity. |
