Beloved, since God loved us
so much, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one
another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.
-1 John 4:11-12
This passage of scripture guides us as we seek to provide God’s love to the larger community of our nation. Our involvement comes in many ways – through support of Presbyterian organizations, support of seminary students and support of the Presbyterian Church (USA). There is always a need for your dollars and yet the greatest need is for your time and your talents.
Presbyterian Organizations
- Presbyterian Pan American School
Pan American School, in Kingsville, Texas, was formed in 1956 when two schools (the Texas-Mexican Industrial Institute and the Presbyterian School for Mexican Girls) merged. The mission of the school is to provide an international co-educational program to prepare young people from all nations for college through worship, study and work in a Christian environment. 95 percent of graduates attend university either in the United States or in Central America.
PHPC supports Presbyterian Pan American School in several ways. One student a year receives a scholarship provided out of our general budget and a portion of our Christmas Joy Offering benefits the general operating fund of the school. In addition, members have served on the school’s Board of Trustees and pastors have preached in chapel services. A mission trip in 1996 refurbished a dormitory for the school.
- Presbyterian Children’s Homes - www.pchas.org
The Texas-wide Presbyterian Children’s Homes began in Dallas in 1903 as an orphanage and moved to Itasca in 1906. Today, the Homes provide residential care for children in group homes throughout the state (in San Antonio, Duncanville and Itasca). The children have experienced the death of one or both parents, abuse or neglect, or relationship difficulties with their families because of divorce or step-parent conflicts. A main priority of all the homes is to teach children the coping skills necessary for living in today’s world.
PHPC supports the Homes through donations and members serving on its Board of Directors.
Seminary Students
Preston Hollow currently sponsors and supports five students studying in theological seminaries across the country. Each student seeks to serve God through leadership in the larger church.
Presbyterian Church (USA)
The vast majority of our service to the United States comes through our general mission giving (approximately $100,000 a year) to our denomination and to our synod, the Synod of the Sun, and to our presbytery, Grace Presbytery. Members of our church and our church staff serve on various boards and committees to make the mission of the Presbyterian Church a reality.
Who to Contact
If service and mission to the United States interest you, and you would like more information, please contact the Rev. Elizabeth Mclean, Pastor of Mission & Evangelism.
