We believe that the church should be a place where children experience God's gracious love for them, the joy of worshipping and serving God together, and the peace of belonging to a forgiving community of faith. We take the promises made at a child's baptism seriously by committing to nurture our children through quality programs of Bible study, worship, music, mission and fellowship.
All staff and volunteers working with our children are required to submit to a background check and take training in the recognition and prevention of child abuse as part of our Child Protection Policy.
Nursery Care
Quality child care is offered for most PHPC events by reservation through the church office. All care givers are trained adults who have met the requirements of our Child Protection Policy. Sunday morning child care is available, without reservations, for children from birth through Kindergarten. During the 9:30 hour, those who are two years and older attend Sunday School classes rather than child care.
Sunday School
Year-round classes for two-year olds through sixth graders provide opportunities for Christian growth and nurturing through biblically-based curriculum. During the school year, the children study the Bible on a three-year rotation. Each class also has a memory-work goal and mission project to work on. During the summer months, a variety of supplemental curricula are studied and children participate in intergenerational activities. Our Children's Choirs
Our Children's Choirs are organized to include participation for children from age 4 through the sixth grade. The goals for the children's choirs include providing religious, educational and recreational opportunities for the children, developing an understanding of worship, encouraging a sense of personal responsibility and cooperation, and presenting worthy music, well prepared, to the glory of God. A parent's of choir children class is being offered at the same time as the choir rehearsals noted below, 8:45 - 9:30 a.m. in Jubilee Hall - E. Other Programs
- Stewardship Council - Each Fall our 1st through 6th grade classes select a class steward to serve on this council. The children meet once a month before Sunday School to learn about stewardship and mission, and then report back to their classes. The Children's Stewardship Council also researches and decides what projects the children's offering will be used for. Last year alone our children gave more than $2,000 to chosen ministries!
- Kid Connection - A fellowship opportunity for 5th and 6th graders who meet once a month from September to June for social and service events to build friendship and faith.
- Kid Craze - A new fellowship opportunity for fun and friend making for our 3rd and 4th graders. These game nights will happen through out the school year.
- Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper - A giant intergeneration night of Mardi Gras fun to celebrate the beginning of Lent with pancakes and singing and clowns and laughter.
- Feast of New Life - A Palm Sunday afternoon celebration of crafts and games for children ages three through second grade, followed with a family dinner!
- Sex Education - PHPC is proud to be at the forefront of churches providing medically sound, biblically-based, and culturally sensitive training on God's gift of sexuality. Classes for 2nd through 4th graders and their parents are offered every other year, and for 5th and 6th graders and their parents every year.
- God and Country Awards - Every other winter, classes are offered for scouts and their parents to meet the requirements of this award.
